Cadillac will allegedly put the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! into production at the Detroit-Hamtramck factory in December 2021, according to a rumor from Auto Forecast Solutions cited by Autoline Daily’s recent video. The report claims that the new model would share its platform with the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Unfortunately, there aren’t many other details about the production Escala at this point. Auto Forecast Solutions doesn’t even know whether the vehicle would be a sedan like the concept or perhaps a CT6-derived coupe.
“Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium,” Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said in a statement when the concept premiered. Yes of course, Luxury and all that.

Yes but will the Chinese be able to buy it in enough numbers to make it worthwhile?

Lift it three inches and stretch it to be taller and then they’ll put it into production.

Will one trick pony whiner deNysschen allow a model without a goofy alphanumeric name?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being a China-only model

No they’ll make up some alphanumeric name like the rest of the Cadillac model lineup.

Don’t crush my hopes man. I was just initiating a substantial bank transfer to put down a deposit on this thing. I am still waiting for that Elmiraj concept to make production before I die of old age.

I generally hate Cadillac’s design language, all the sharp edges and whatnot do nothing for me. But this, this looks good to me. If this is a sign of where they are going with their future designs, count me in.

Same. I am expecting the upcoming CT5 to incorporate some of the Escala’s design language. The spy shots do give some clues

Is this supposed to be a Wolf of Wall Street meme? It’s surely not a screenshot from the Revenant. Great Gatsby? wait, is it The Departed? No, we need to go deeper...
No! Titanic!definitely a Titanic reference suggesting this project will sink much like the ill-fated ship.

It actually looks better than some of the competiton and they are in fact lacking something in between the XT5 and the Escallade. So, who knows?

From a pure style perspective, it looks nice to me.
But there are problems.
The wheels are too big/tire sidewalls too small. The first pothole this thing his will result in a flat and/or damaged wheel.
Also that rear roofline suggests headroom in the back seat will not be good.
And the shape of the trunk area suggests a big trunk that you can’t get anything big in because of the small trunk opening.

Seriously, they should at least consider dusting off Eldorado and Fleetwood, the way Mercedes uses Pullman and Maybach.

Both of those are good choices. They sound good and I don’t think have real negative connotations. Better than weird wannabe-German letters and numbers.

Seriously, when people (especially foreigners) hear “Cadillac Eldorado” , I guarantee you their minds dont go to the downsized mid 80s variants, they go to the tailfinned and chrome plated ones from the 50s, that cost as much as a house in Levittown. Not sure why that would be a bad thing for the brand.

I think of the Eldo Brougham, and the crisp 79-85 model (which at least on the outside, I think is an underrated clean design). Both of those are positive associations. I think the brand could do worse - if they are finally going make soime cars with the panache of the past, give them names to match.

Bill Mitchell knew what he was doing with the first round of downsizing - B-body, A-body, Toro/Riv/Eldo. All decent looking cars that managed to get smaller and lighter without alienating customers. Except for some of the engines.

The 77+ Fleetwood wasn’t bad looking either - it became grandfatherly, but at the time it was a modern design. Unpopular take, I also like the bustleback Seville, but only an early car with a metal roof etc.
A 79-80 Eldo equipped right wouldn’t be a bad car.
